PDO Lifting Threads and PDO Soft Threads
PDO Lifting Threads
A procedure done using PDO Lifting Threads, is a face lift using medical-grade, dissolvable sutures to tighten and lift facial skin. This procedure is a minimally invasive facelift without having to go under the scalpel.
Prior to placement of PDO Lifting Threads a topical numbing agent will be applied. The optimal position during the procedure is to lay flat on your back with head rested on pillow. If you experience back pain or discomfort with this position, the head rest can be raised, and an additional pillow can be placed under the back of knees. Your facial skin will be thoroughly cleaned and checked to assure adequate numbness is present. A cannula will be placed in a specific area on the face to create a tiny hole where the PDO Lifting Threads will be placed. Once threads are placed, the excess will be cut and secured into place. All in all, this is a relatively quick procedure.
It is advised that 5 days prior to treatment you should stop taking any blood thinning medications (Advil, Ibuprofen or Aspirin) and avoid drinking alcohol. These recommendations are set in place to avoid the increased risk of bleeding and bruising.

A PDO Lifting Thread facelift is a minimally invasive procedure, but you should expect some downtime following treatment. You may experience swelling, bruising, pain or discomfort for the first couple of days following the procedure. The use of pain relief medications and ice is recommended. Avoid pulling on facial skin, massaging, scrubbing or exfoliating your face for at least 3 weeks. Directly following you should avoid washing your face for the first 12 hours. It is also recommended to sleep on your back for the first few days after the procedure, this is to avoid sleeping on the sides of your face where treatment was done. Returning to your typical daily activities and schedule will depend on tolerance of pain and swelling. Typically, 2-3 days is required for recovery.
Most PDO Lifting Threads last on average 18 months or longer. Optimal results of procedure will progress over time. PDO Lifting Threads increase collagen production in facial skin and once dissolved noticeable results will continue to develop over time. Depending on skin integrity and skin condition, additional PDO Lifting Threads can be placed.
PDO Lifting Threads have been used the longest out of all the threads currently available, since the 1980’s. The main role of the PDO Lifting Threads is to trigger cells in your body to produce more collagen. With this increased collagen production your skin will regain appropriate structure and elasticity. Over time our body begins to slow collagen production, so with the help of PDO Lifting Threads our face will regain what was once lost.
SOFT Threads
Like that of a PDO Lifting Thread, Soft Threads are also a minimally invasive procedure which are placed in specific areas of the face to increase collagen production. This procedure is used to target fine lines, wrinkles and increase the vermilion border of lips with use of a medical-grade thread.
PDO Soft Threads can treat:
- Areas of the forehead
- Areas of the neck
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scars and other scarring
- Stretch marks
- Vermilion border of lips
A Soft Threads procedure is set up similarly to a Lifting Threads procedure. The area where the Soft Threads will be placed is numbed and cleansed thoroughly. With a Soft Threads procedure, a cannula will not need to be placed prior to placement of threads. Threads will individually be inserted in specific areas of the lips, forehead or neck. This procedure is minimally invasive and generally completed in a matter of minutes.
5 days prior to the procedure you want to avoid taking any blood thinning medications (Advil, Ibuprofen or Aspirin) and avoid drinking alcohol.
Recovery from a Soft Threads procedure is much quicker than that of a Lifting Threads procedure. You may experience some bruising and swelling in the areas where the threads were placed. The use of pain relief medications and ice is recommended following procedure. It is a very common side effect that you may experience a “pinching” feeling in the lips, this discomfort should resolve within a couple days following treatment.
Generally, timelines are dependent on facial skin, integrity and area of placement. It is recommended that Soft Threads can be placed up to 3 times in a specific area. This recommendation is based patient to patient. If the need of additional threads is required, usually 9-12 months should pass prior to additional treatment.
Like that of a Lifting Threads treatment, Soft Threads are very safe and effective.
This procedure comes with extremely low risks of complications when compared to a traditional facelift surgery.
